I would definitely recommend keeping an eye on ProjectMedia.acx though because I just checked it again and more corruption has crept in. I relaunched Encore, everything worked properly and I was able to create the disc and breathe a sigh of relief. For some reason the button in preferences doesn't remove everything so I'd recommend removing all files from the media cache directories at ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common or by using Housekeeper. To fix this, close Encore, open up the file in TextEdit and delete everything beyond the first tag. The file should end with the closing XML tag (and there should only be one) but extra data has been added at the end. This is what the end of the file looked like: There is a file in your project directory called ProjectMedia.acx.

I eventually traced it to project corruption. In addition to this intro to handling media and creating menus, be sure to check out Devis' later videos in the series which go into creating a Flash-based web DVD (although as we know, Flash's days are numbered), menus with video and audio content, and photo slideshows. I thought it might just be the preview but the problem existed on a test disc that I burned. I cleared the media cache from within the preferences menu no change. I restarted Encore and the problem was still there. I checked the original source files and they were fine.

It went well until about three quarters of the way through the movie one of the character's lines started repeating over and over and over again for about ten minutes. I created the menus and timelines and then used the Preview function to check it. I then used Compressor to create a 5.1 AC3 file and brought both into Encore. I eventually narrowed the problem down to a corrupt Dynamic Link cache which I trashed with CS Repair and got the more respectable prediction of 10 hours (it was a 90 minute feature with 10-bit RGB source files).

I initially had some issues encoding the Premiere Pro sequence to H.264 because Adobe Media Encoder told me it would take 42 hours, and after leaving it for a few hours it seemed to be making good on that promise. I'd previously tested the workflow and everything had worked well, but this was my first time using it on a project.

So that's just a little bit of what's new in this version of Encore and let's go ahead and get started and learn more about how to use Encore CS3.This past weekend I used Adobe Encore for the first time to create a Blu-ray for an important screening. So we're going to really find that Photoshop is going to be a major part in the creation of content and Encore and Photoshop work very, very well together. I'm just going to go ahead and keep that sub thing going. Many Encore authors use Photoshop to create their menus and their buttons and their sub-buttons and sub-menus and sub, well, submarines.

And one of the most important things, of course, is the very, very tight integration with Photoshop CS3. That's really handy when you want to go back and forth between the applications in the Creative Suite.

Using the Dynamic Link functionality, you can have a tighter integration with the other applications in the Creative Suite, which means that if we want to work on a motion menu and we want to work with Premier or even After Effects, we can make changes to our content in one of those applications and even without saving it, have it update automatically in Encore. You may even save it as a Flash file so your interactivity can be played on the Internet. So when we create a project in Encore, we can send it to Blu-ray, we can send it to a DVD. So, what else can you do with Encore CS3? You can, in a sense, have a one-stop shop when it comes to creating content. Now, people who bought a PlayStation 3 were lucky because they already had a game system as well as the new standard in high-def playability with the player. By the way, for those of you who have a Sony PlayStation 3, congratulations.

Of course, you're going to need a Blu-ray burner to do that, but we still talk about Blu-ray a little bit later on in the tutorial as well. Sony did win that war so now the Blu-ray is going to be the new standard when it comes to watching high-definition movies and content on your TV. Now, there was the HD-DVD Blu-ray war, which raged for quite a while. Now, Blu-ray is relatively new to a lot of people, but it is going to be the successor to the DVD format I believe. New in Encore, by the way, in CS3, is the ability to burn Blu-ray disks. And we're going to use the Bridge in several different ways and talk about how you can use it as well for your asset management. So of course you can do that within the application but what if you're a big fan of the Adobe Bridge? I'm going to show you how you can select some images from within the Bridge itself and then turn them into a slideshow right from Bridge that will turn them into an Encore slideshow and literally send that to Encore. You can create slideshows in Encore because a lot of people like to watch slideshows as a part of their DVD. Adobe Encore CS3 has quite a few new features that are going to really streamline your workflow and also give you enhanced productivity.
